Praise the Lord.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today is the first sunday in Great Lent, called Leper Sunday(Garbo sunday)
Today's gospel reading is from ST.Luke:5:12-16
Here Jesus heals a man full of leprosy. That leper said to Jesus that "if you will, you can make me clean" Jesus put forth His hand, and touched him, saying,"I will:be you clean".Immediately the leprosy departed from him.
Here we can see the readiness of Jesus, to heal those who need. Leprosy was the most worse and hated diseace in that period.According to the laws of Moses nobody was allowed to touch a leper.A leper should live away from the society. He was not allowed to come infront of others. But here that man, because of his true faith in Jesus came infront of Him and prayed.
Through this miracle Jesus teach us that do not hate any person and let no one live away from the community. Our Lord Jesus Christ is always willing to help us and heal us.Come infront of Jesus and give yourself in the hands of Jesus.Place your will in God's safe embrace and allow Him to take care of you so that you can grow.
There is one question that are you ready to hand your life to Jesus?Jesus told the leper "you clean".A faithful and a dedicated person is in need to be cleansed in both body and soul.In the same way as we keep our hearts clean for the Lord to dwell in,we also have to keep our senses clean that God can live there too.Because it is God that judges our thoughts. If you want to keep your thoughts clean you should stay away from things that pollute your heart.Expecially in this Lent period stay away from everything that causes sin to grow in your mind and pray constantly.
We are passing through the Great Lent.It is a time to examine our souls, and to return to God in repentance. We should reconsile with God and with our Fellow beings.
May God Give power and steadyness to you all to continue in your decesion that to take lent. The Holy Spirit shall strengthen you.
God Bless You. Saju Achan. 2/18/2010
